who care
Our family lawyers know that family law issues can be upsetting and stressful, so we make working with us as simple as possible.
Family Law
Separation is usually an emotional and challenging time for the parties. It can also be an unsettling and difficult time for any child. You may need practical guidance about your next steps in the immediate aftermath of a separation. Even where you may not be ready to start discussing long-term arrangements with your former partner, we recommend obtaining some initial advice about your rights and responsibilities. In particular, you should be aware of the relevant time limits and what steps you may need to take to protect the assets or yourself and your children.
Divorce
Married couples who separate usually want to end the spouse relationship. The Family Court of WA has an online application process for a divorce application, which parties can complete themselves if they wish.
If your application is complicated by a short relationship, difficulties with the service of the application on the other party, cohabitation after separation, or if you want assistance with the application for any other reason, JK Legal can help.
Children’s Issues
When you separate, you and your former partner may struggle to make appropriate arrangements for your children. Our solicitors can provide advice on children’s issues, assist with negotiations, and represent you at mediation.
If you reach an agreement, JK Legal can prepare the necessary documents or application to formalise that agreement. We can also assist with preparing, filing, and serving any Family Court application about your children and provide representation in Court if you cannot reach an agreement or if there is urgency in your matter.

Property and Spousal Maintenance
Married or de facto couples should end their financial relationship by making arrangements for the division of their property and spouse maintenance after separation. Our solicitors can advise on an appropriate division of assets and whether spouse maintenance should be payable and assist with negotiations.
If you cannot reach an agreement, our solicitors can explain the other options for resolving your matter. In some circumstances, structured mediation can assist parties in reaching an agreement. Where this is not possible, arbitration may be helpful, or court proceedings may be necessary. Our solicitors have the experience and expertise to assist you in whatever action is required.
If you reach an agreement, JK Legal can prepare the necessary documents or application to formalise that agreement. We can also assist with preparing, filing, and serving any Family Court application about your property or spouse maintenance and provide representation in Court if you cannot reach an agreement or if there is urgency in your matter.
